Properties: Alfalfa is a wonderful herb characterized by its high nutritional as well as medicinal values. The name 'al-fal-fa' means ‘the father of all foods’. The popular knowledge and traditional use in Peru ascribe several properties, health benefits and applications to alfalfa plant as dietary supplement (some of which have been scientifically confirmed):

- Alfalfa is a good source of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It contains vitamin A, B, B6, B12, C, E, K, niacin, panthotenic acid, folic acid, and biotin. Among its minerals, it is rich in calcium.

- Alfalfa supplements are effective for anemia, convalescence, and general weakness, and to stop hemorrhages. Traditionally used in order to stimulate appetite and to treat digestive disorders, especially ulcers. Also as mild diuretic, and against asthma and other respiratory diseases.

- Its phytoestrogens regulate female hormones due to their capacity to maintain appropriate hormonal levels.
